Special Focus: The Urban Economy and Its Socio-Economic Consequences

The Journal of Contemporary Urban Affairs, indexed in the Web of Science Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), invites original manuscript submissions for Volume 10, Issue 2. This issue focuses specifically on urban economy and the socio-economic consequences of contemporary urbanisation.

The journal welcomes original case study articles that provide strong empirical evidence and contribute directly to understanding how economic forces shape contemporary cities, urban life, spatial development, housing, infrastructure, governance, mobility, informality, inequality, resilience, and sustainable urban futures.

Submissions should be clearly positioned within the field of urban economy and should demonstrate how the selected case study contributes to broader debates on contemporary urbanisation. We particularly encourage robust empirical studies, including quantitative, mixed-method, and evidence-based case study research.

Manuscripts may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  • Urban economy and contemporary urban development
  • Socio-economic impacts of urbanisation
  • Housing affordability, land value, and real estate dynamics
  • Urban inequality, poverty, exclusion, and spatial justice
  • Informal economies and informal urban growth
  • Urban regeneration, redevelopment, and economic restructuring
  • Tourism, local economies, and urban transformation
  • Migration, labour markets, and urban socio-economic change
  • Infrastructure investment and urban economic development
  • Smart cities, digital economies, and urban competitiveness
  • Climate change, resilience, and the economic consequences of urban adaptation
  • Public space, commercial activity, and socio-economic urban life
  • Urban governance, policy, and economic sustainability

The journal is only accepting original case study articles that are directly related to urban economy and/or the socio-economic consequences of contemporary urbanisation. Manuscripts that are purely descriptive, conceptual, general urban studies papers, or not clearly connected to the scope of urban economy may be returned without review.

Submission deadline: 30 September 2026
